As the Milwaukee Bucks' ownership hinting at a potential pre-draft split, the "Greek Freak" could finally be within reach for a Miami Heat franchise hungry to pair another superstar with Bam Adebayo.

Miami, FL. – The Miami Heat have long-awaited the opportunity to trade for superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, especially in the last five years. After winning the NBA championship in 2021, the idea of the “Greek Freak” playing for any other team other than the Milwaukee Bucks seemed to be unrealistic. However, the franchise has only made it past the first round of the playoffs just once since claiming the Larry O’Brien trophy.

The Bucks are coming off an underwhelming 32-50 regular season, didn’t even qualify for the Play-In Tournament. Antetokounmpo battled through injuries and appeared in just 36 games. He averaged 27.6 points on 62.4 percent shooting, 33.3 percent from behind the arc, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists. Given the lack of success in recent history, there are rumblings about Antetokounmpo and the Bucks potentially looking to split ways. Franchise owner Jimmy Haslam told the media on Wednesday that a decision is likely to be made sooner rather than later.

“I just think before the Draft is a natural time,” he said. “If Giannis does play somewhere else, then we ought to get a lot of assets and that’s Jon [Horst's job to do it. If he’s here, then we build the team differently.”

The NBA will reveal the lottery odds on Sunday, May 10. Both the Heat and Bucks are projected to land outside of the top eight picks. The first round of the NBA Draft will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on Tuesday, June 23. The second round is the following day.

Antetokounmpo and the Bucks will have over a month to discuss what is the best path moving forward. Haslam emphasized that the communication has been anything but negative.

“I just want to stress, though, that our relationship with him [Antetokounmpo], despite what is reported by certain ESPN writers, is very positive,” he added.

Haslam and the rest of the Bucks front office have a clear understanding that it’s a big decision to trade Antetokounmpo, especially after a 13-year tenure. The 10-time All-Star stuck with the organization through difficult seasons, eventually resulting in a championship.

The Heat are in desperate need of adding star power to the roster, especially next to three-time All-Star Bam Adebayo. Antetokounmpo would be an excellent addition, worth a significant amount of assets. However, the Heat have been waiting for this opportunity for years.

Unlike the NBA trade deadline, a decision likely won’t loom throughout the entire offseason.
