Pat Riley faces a fierce battle with Brad Stevens as the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat emerge as frontrunners to land the Greek Freak in a blockbuster trade.
Miami, FL. – Probably the worst secret in the United States of America is the Miami Heat targeting former Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo this upcoming summer. They are in desperate need of star power, especially trying to fill the Jimmy Butler void. However, the Heat aren’t the only ones looking to make drastic changes.
The Boston Celtics are coming off an impressive 56-26 regular season, finishing with the second-best record in the Eastern Conference, only having five-time All-NBA forward Jayson Tatum for 22 total games, including the playoffs. The 28-year-old made a historic return from a torn right Achilles. However, it wasn’t enough to get past the first round. The Celtics are reportedly entering the race for Antetokounmpo.
According to The Stein Line, the 10-time All-Star is interested in joining either Eastern Conference franchise.

Both organizations won’t have cap space, but they are under the first apron by at least $20 million. It provides flexibility to get a potential deal done. The Celtics could pose as a serious threat to land Antetokounmpo, especially by winning a championship within the last six years.
President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens is known to get deals done. He delivered the Celtics All-Defensive guard Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis, both of whom were key factors in delivering the franchise its 18th championship in 2024.
However, the Heat can offer extra draft capital, including the No. 13 pick. According to league rules, they can’t rightfully give it up in a potential trade, but select a player on behalf of the Milwaukee Bucks. Plus, the Heat have young, intriguing assets to offer, such as Nikola Jovic, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Pelle Larsson, and Kasparas Jakucionis.
Antetokounmpo will have a strong voice in where he plays next, if a trade is close to an agreement. According to Miami Herald Sports Columnist Barry Jackson, the Heat have already submitted an offer, but there are no specific details on the package. The Bucks are working patiently to listen to other teams. Owner Jimmy Haslam set a virtual deadline, the upcoming draft, as the latest to figure out Antetokounmpo’s future.
The Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks are other teams reportedly interested in targeting the nine-time All-NBA forward. However, the Heat and Celtics are likely fighting at the top to present a strong offer, one that cannot be refused. The conversations are far from getting serious, but the news will grow once the playoffs are over.
