Some things are bigger than basketball.
The latest example is Miami Heat legend Chris Bosh, who had a near-death experience earlier this week that led him to rethink his life.
"I woke up covered in my own blood," Bosh said on social media. "It was crazy, it was instant, there was no warning. I didn't have any time to prepare for it. I was getting ready to go on a date with my wife, and next thing you know, I was on the ground. I won't get into specifics, but as you see, I'm still recovering. It was a scary thing, and it came fast. It made me really have a different outlook on life."
Bosh had to cut his career short due to blood clots, so many empathized with this still affecting him to this day.
Bosh flies under the radar in his contributions to the Big Three with Dwyane Wade and LeBron James. Because of Wade and James' legacies as historically great at their positions, Bosh is sometimes slept on for his impact during this championship era. But Heat fans know his influence on the Big Three, a crucial piece in a team that made four straight Finals appearances.
He attempted to return to the NBA later in his life, but his blood-clotting condition was too big a strain to overcome. Pat Riley retired the No. 1 jersey, establishing that no one else in the franchise would wear the number, in honor of Bosh.
In the meantime, Heat fans and basketball fans everywhere are wishing Bosh a speedy recovery and praying this never happens again.
