The Miami Heat have been one of the most consistent franchise over the past 15 seasons but recently, they have entered an era of mediocrity. Despite making the NBA Finals twice this decade, they have also been the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs multiple times. A big reason for their success was the addition of Jimmy Butler in 2019, who quickly became the face of the franchise and was a ferocious player who acted as the team's leader. However, last year, his relationship with the front office grew sour and he was dealt to the Golden State Warriors at the trade deadline. Now, the team is still figuring out their identity in the post-Butler era.

Bleacher Report released an article, giving one word to describe every NBA team at the moment. The word to describe the Heat: "meh."

"There's a reason the Heat are connected to any and every potential star pursuit," the article wrote. "And, no, it's not just the fact that South Beach and no state income tax makes for an awfully compelling combination sales pitch. Really, it just speaks to Miami's struggles to level up without a true elite on the roster. And since this organization seems anti-tanking to the core, bottoming out for a difference-maker isn't an option. So, the Heat are once again chasing maximum competitiveness without having anything close to the league's most competitive roster. They're like the embodiment of a shoulder shrug — non-offensive, not exciting and not particularly notable."

The Heat began the season as one of the hotter teams in the Eastern Conference with their fast-paced offense led by offseason acquisition Norman Powell. The team didn't enter this season with the highest of expectations but the season looked promising. However, the month of Dec. was a rocky one and the Heat came back down to Earth. Since then, they have been viewed as a Play-In caliber team and have found their sweet spot in the standings around the No. 7 and No. 10 seeds.

There were rumblings about the team making a big move at last month's trade deadline but the franchise was one of a few to not make a single move. Now, they'll focus their attention to his offseason where multiple stars such as Giannis Antetokounmpo and Ja Morant are expected to be available in trade discussions.

There is still a chance for Miami to be a sneaky team in the playoffs this season, especially with the recent return of Tyler Herro but the expectations for this team are not where they have been in years past.
