Udonis Haslem addresses the physical altercation between former teammates Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro, downplaying the gym scuffle while trade-related tensions boil over before the upcoming season.

MIAMI, Fla. – This past Friday afternoon, a shocking report came out that Bam Adebayo struck former Miami Heat teammate Tyler Herro in Las Vegas. According to The Athletic, the physical altercation occurred at a gym inside the Resorts World Casino. Herro’s AAU team was present to witness it.

No footage has been leaked. There was reported resentment from Herro’s side while the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade conversations were ongoing. He was part of the blockbuster package to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for the former Finals MVP. Herro’s seven-year tenure with the Heat could be described as lopsided – to say the least. Along with the regular-season success are playoff disappointments.

It’s unlikely the league will get involved and present any form of punishment. Three days have passed since the altercation and Heat legend Udonis Haslem shared that he talked with both Adebayo and Herro. Although the three-time NBA Champion didn’t reveal much, the 46-year-old shed light on the discussion:

“I’ve talked to both of them,” he told the Miami Herald. “I don’t have any takeaway on it. I felt like it was blown out of proportion, like it was made bigger than what it was. There’s a lot of time that they’ll have to figure things out before the season comes around.”

Adebayo and Herro have been connected since entering the league – only a two-year difference between both All-Stars’ draft classes (2017 and 2019). They were University of Kentucky prospects and played just one season with the Wildcats program. Adebayo and Herro were a part of three Eastern Conference Finals and two NBA Finals runs.

However, a difference from within has clearly exploded. It’s difficult to interpret whether Herro and Adebayo will settle things in the near future. Maybe if they were still teammates, urgency would be necessary, but that’s no longer the case.

After playing in the league for 20 years, Haslem understands what it’s like to get into altercations, especially with teammates. He was famously seen arguing with six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler during the 2021-22 regular season. There’s likely plenty more behind the scenes that won’t see the light of day.

Herro and Adebayo will have opportunities to hash out any beefs on the court in the upcoming season. However, they will need to show restraint and discipline because any punches thrown will surely result in fines and suspensions.

There was a similar sense of rivalry when Butler departed from the franchise at the 2025 trade deadline. Now, it’s Herro who’s the villain among the Heat fanbase.
