The Miami Heat are one team expected to be big players when it comes to the offseason. They have a multitude of tradable picks, plenty of young stars with potential and hefty contracts to match as salary filler. Miami has one player on the roster who many have expected the team to part with for the past couple of seasons but this offseason may be the right time to move on.

Bleacher Report proposed a trade sending All-Star guard Tyler Herro to the Houston Rockets. The trade proposed is:

Heat receive: F Jabari Smith Jr. and G Reed Sheppard

Rockets receive: G Tyler Herro and a 2026 first-round draft pick

"Guard play has plagued the Rockets all season," the article wrote. "This is a team that should look for a new starter in the backcourt this summer, even if Fred VanVleet returns from a torn ACL. Herro, 26, is averaging 22.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists and is shooting a career-high 40.2 percent from three this season. He's turning the ball over just 1.9 times a game, key for a team that ranks 28th overall in turnover ratio. Houston also gets a mid-first-round pick and opens more playing time for Tari Eason (restricted free agent) with Smith gone. Miami has been hesitant to give Herro a long-term deal and now gets two young potential starters in Smith and Sheppard."

Herro has been one of the team's best scorers over the past couple of seasons and especially had a breakout campaign during the 2024-25 season, earning his first All-Star nod. However, he has missed a lot of time this season and Pat Riley has been reluctant to hand him a contract extension. He is only under contract for one more season and Miami may want to deal him while he still has a solid amount of trade value. Adding a first-round pick along with Herro could be a tough pill to swallow but the pick right now is projected to be at No. 18 so the pick's value is not extremely high.

For the Heat, Jabari Smith Jr. and Reed Sheppard are strong young pieces to have. Smith signed a contract extension last offseason and is under contract through 2031. Sheppard has been a bigger part of the Rockets rotation this season after being drafted at No. 3 in the 2024 draft. Both players will not hit free agency for a long time and are under the age of 23. If the Heat decide to move toward a legitimate rebuild at any point, having both players is a great start.
