Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo says teams are defending him differently since his epic 83-point game against the Washington Wizards
Much has changed for Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo since he scored the epic 83 points a few weeks ago against the Washington Wizards.
In a recent interview with FullCourtPass, he explained how it has changed his life in the NBA. He said teams have started defending him differently.
"People are obviously going into stats how I play, notice that I didn't shoot that many threes. So now it's like, when I step on the court, it's like, `Yeah, you have to guard me now because I can make seven in a game."'
Throughout his career, Adebayo has often faced criticism for his scoring. Some have said he is too inconsistent and disappears in the clutch. Adebayo has always responded by saying he is a team player. He cares more about team success than individual accolades.
So that's probably why him proving he can score in bunches was so important.
"I can get to the foul line," Adebayo said. "The plays are through me. I think it's a different level of respect for my offense for sure. Some of the greatest players in our league have come through here and haven't been able to do that. To be able to score 83 points in a game is a big deal. I think it's changed how people view my offensive game."
BIG LOSS TO THE CELTICS
In the latest edition of the HeatWave Podcast, Miami Heat and Miami Hurricanes beat writer Anthony Aguirre was joined by Philadelphia 76ers publisher Anthony Pasciolla to discuss the team’s Wednesday night 147-129 loss to the Boston Celtics. They dropped to 10th in the Eastern Conference standings.
The biggest standout to Aguirre was the Celtics’ pristine protection of the basketball:
“One of the things that stands out to me the most, A.P., is the Celtics only committed seven turnovers,” he said. “Only seven. We hardly ever see an NBA team keep their turnovers to single digits in just a whole season, really. That’s part of what makes the Heat offense their offense: capitalizing on turnovers, getting on a fast break. They simply couldn’t do it against the Celtics because they hardly made any mistakes.”
