The Miami Heat promote Jahmir Young to a standard contract, snagging the undrafted guard for a playoff push and a chance to shine.
After nearly completing an 82-game season, the Miami Heat officially waived veteran guard Terry Rozier on Friday. He’s been away from the league due to alleged involvement in a federal sports gambling case and being arrested on Oct. 23, 2025. The 32-year-old was charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering and conspiracy to commit wire fraud, to which he pleaded not guilty.
As the Heat opened a roster spot, the organization had until Sunday to sign a replacement player. It didn’t take long because it was reported on Friday that guard Jahmir Young will sign a standard contract. The 25-year-old earns a promotion from his two-way deal.
Young went undrafted in the 2024 class after playing five collegiate seasons, three with the Charlotte 49ers and two with the Maryland Terrapins. He signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Denver Nuggets, primarily played with the Grand Rapids Gold, the organization’s G-League affiliate, then signed a two-year two-way contract with the Chicago Bulls on Feb. 19, 2025.
The Maryland native would get waived during the offseason. However, a redirection led him to the Heat.
Young originally signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the organization before getting converted to a two-way shortly after the conclusion of preseason. He scored 18 points on 54.5 percent shooting, two rebounds, three steals, and an assist in 32 minutes off the bench against the Orlando Magic on Oct. 12, 2025.
The undrafted prospect primarily spent time with the Sioux Falls Skyforce, the Heat’s G-League affiliate. He averaged 26 points on 47.1 percent shooting, 37.6 percent from three-point range, 4.6 rebounds, 8.9 assists, and 1.6 steals in 25 games.
Young will be eligible for the postseason as the Heat will participate in the Play-In Tournament for a fourth consecutive year. They will have the Charlotte Hornets, but it has yet to be determined which team will get home-court advantage.
In addition to reports of the new contract, no money is guaranteed.
The Heat are known for developing overlooked talent into impactful players, such as Gabe Vincent, Max Strus, Caleb Martin, Duncan Robinson, Haywood Highsmith, and three-time NBA champion Udonis Haslem. Young is part of a pipeline known to have success.
The team will conclude the regular season at the Kaseya Center against the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday. Young will likely have an opportunity to play, especially with injuries to Tyler Herro and Norman Powell. Regardless, the undrafted prospect earns a spot on the standard roster for the foreseeable future.
