Miami Heat Bam Adebayo got into a physical altercation with former teammate Tyler Herro after alleged social media jabs and burner account leaks upset the star center.
The Miami Heat have had a busy offseason thus far. The big move was trading for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Heat parted with multiple players in that trade including All-Star guard Tyler Herro. Herro, 26, was a member of the Heat since 2019 when he was drafted in the first round out of Kentucky. Herro posted a farewell message on social media earlier this week, highlighting seven seasons with the franchise and all seemed well and good between Herro and the Heat organization.
However, ESPN's Shams Charania reported Friday that Herro and current Heat center Bam Adebayo got into a physical altercation in Las Vegas.
According to Charania, Adebayo struck Herro at a practice court in Las Vegas. Adebayo was upset at comments Herro made regarding his tenure in Miami. Both players are in Las Vegas to watch the Summer League.
Earlier this week, Herro posted a screenshot of advanced statistics, courtesy of Kalshi, from his alleged burner Instagram account. The statistic provided is of the top 10 lowest field goal percentages on mid-range field goal attempts. The lowest percentage on the list is the Heat's shiny new acquisition Antetokounmpo with a 26.8 percentage and Adebayo is ranked No. 10 on the list with a 35.9 percent.
Also, an Imgur thread highlights a now-deleted screenshot that allegedly shows Herro criticizing Adebayo from that same Instagram burner account. In the chain of direct messages, Herro seems to claim that the team needed him more than Adebayo during the playoffs.
Another social media instance between the two came after another Heat player's farewell post. Along with Herro, the Heat dealt Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Kasparas Jakucionis as part of the blockbuster package for Antetokounmpo. Adebayo commented and liked Jaquez's farewell post but chose not to comment on Herro's post.
This is a wild turn of events for a pair of teammates who were together in Miami for seven seasons. Both are Kentucky products and both have All-Star nods. When Jimmy Butler requested a trade in 2024, the future seemed bright for Miami with Herro and Adebayo potentially leading the team for years to come.
Now, with Herro in Milwaukee, the first game between both teams this coming season will presumably be highly publicized for two reasons: one being Antetokounmpo's first game against the team he won a ring with and played 13 seasons for and the other being a matchup between two former teammates who have had a falling out.
