Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo recently talked about LeBron James choosing to play for the Philadelphia 76ers
For most of July, the Miami Heat and their fans thought they were headed to "The Decision" Part 2.
The Heat thought they had a chance for a James reunion once he announced he was leaving the Los Angeles Lakers in free agency. For weeks, there were reports about Miami being among the best possible landing spots.
Eventually, it ended with James deciding to join the Philadelphia 76ers. After all the anticipation, the Heat were on the losing end unlike when James chose Miami in 2010.
While James would have helped, Heat center Bam Adebayo was fine with the decision. The two were teammates in the 2024 Olympics in France.
“I’m cool with `Bron," Adebayo said, speaking at a charity event. "I consider `Bron like a brother honestly. We’ve been Olympic teammates but even before that we’ve always had down to earth conversations. I’m happy for him. You want what’s best for somebody. That’s really how you go from there.”
James won two titles when he teamed with Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade during the Big Three era. The Heat were atop the NBA, making four straight appearances in the NBA Finals. It ended when James left to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he played his first seven seasons.
Regardless, James will always be associated with Miami. It's where he won that elusive first championship. He also defeated the Heat in the 2020 NBA Finals as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers.
With James spurning a reunion with Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra, the Heat now must focus on building a team around Adebayo and newly-acquired superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. The two-time MVP has a new home after spending 13 seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks, leading them to a championship in 2021.
The Heat now have arguably the best frontcourt in the league but need to find another scorer, preferably on the perimeter, to compete with the likes of the 76ers, New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers.
