Despite the recent bumps with the Miami Heat, Norman Powell remains one of the bright spots this season. He's averaging 24.6 points, 3.8 rebounds. 2.4 assists, and 1.2 steals while shooting 50 percent from the field, 43.6 percent from three-point range. The oldest player on the roster, 32-years-old, is on pace to have another All-Star caliber season, with a great chance of actually being named one.
Last season, with the Los Angeles Clippers, the veteran guard averaged 21.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.2 steals, and shot 48.4 percent from the field, 41.8 percent from three-point range in 60 appearances.
For any player in the league to produce these numbers at a later stage in their career compared to the start is astonishing in itself. The only thing more impressive is LeBron James' longevity, to which his superstar agent, Rich Paul, made some interesting comments about the former champion.
In a recent episode of "Game Over With Max [Kellerman] And Rich," they began by discussing the Heat's loss against the Orlando Magic on Tuesday, which resulted in their elimination from the NBA Cup and cost them a trip to Las Vegas. Desmond Bane recorded 37 points, which tied a season-high, along with six three-pointers made, a new season-high, plus six rebounds, five assists, and a steal in 38 minutes of action. It led to them ranking two guards in the league.
Paul went by tiers instead and believes Powell, Bane, and Los Angeles Lakers Austin Reaves are among the same.
"I would say Norman Powell is in that tier two," he said.
"With Austin Reaves and Desmond Bane, right?" Kellerman asked.
"Yeah," Paul responded.
Reaves has elevated his own game this season, averaging 28.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 6.7 assists, and 1.1 steals while shooting 50.9 percent from the field, 37 percent from three-point range. When comparing both guards, the 27-year-old has Powell beat in nearly every individual statistical category.
Both have strong cases to be named All-Stars this year. However, the Lakers as a team are on the upper side of the Western Conference bracket; meanwhile, the Heat have slipped due to the current four-game losing streak.
Regardless, from an individual perspective, both guards are among the best scorers in the league. It's a great compliment from one of the best agents in all of sports.
