LeBron James is viewed as one of the best players in NBA history. After getting swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Semifinals, James is expected to hit unrestricted free agency before a potential farewell season. James has historic tenures with every team he has been a part of, including the Heat, where he won two titles as part of the famous "Big Three" alongside Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
A couple of weeks ago, Bleacher Report released an article, naming potential landing spots for the future Hall of Famer. The Heat were among the teams listed.
"James is from Akron, Ohio," the article wrote. "He came into the league with the Cleveland Cavaliers, rejoined the franchise in 2014, and won the title in 2016. The Cavaliers may be a hot rumor for James this summer, but did we forget he's played for three franchises over his 23 seasons? James made 'The Decision' to join the Heat in 2010, leading to four straight NBA Finals, including two championships. The relationship didn't end well when James chose to go back home to Cleveland, but that was a long time ago."
The Heat are expected to be a team to make a big move this offseason. There are multiple big-name players expected to be available in trade discussions but none may be bigger names than James.
"The Heat are considered to be a top suitor for Giannis Antetokounmpo," the article added. "If they could get that blockbuster done, James could form a new superteam with Bam Adebayo and Antetokounmpo. Miami should have the non-taxpayer mid-level exception ($15 million), depending on which players — Andrew Wiggins, Tyler Herro, or Kel'el Ware — head to Milwaukee as part of any Giannis deal. If we're going to go with wild ideas, why hold back?"
Even at his age, James has not showed many signs of slowing down. This season, with the Lakers, he averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 31.7 percent from three-point range. If the Heat want to push all their chips into next season, adding James would certainly give the team a win-now mentality while also bringing in a familiar face with a history of winning.
