Norman Powell is off to a hot start with the Miami Heat, so much so, he's made franchise history.

The Miami Heat are off to an exciting start to the season. As the team currently sits with a 2-1 record, preparing to face the Charlotte Hornets tonight, they have a different spark compared to recent years. The offense has been rolling with a faster pace and high efficiency. One of the main contributors has been Norman Powell.

The Heat acquired the 32-year-old in an offseason blockbuster trade from the Los Angeles Clippers. He was coming off an All-Star caliber season, averaging 21.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.2 steals, while shooting 48.4 percent from the field, 41.8 percent from three-point range. Powell continues to make strides, even at this juncture of his long career, and is finding more success with his new squad.

The 11-year veteran recorded 28 points, along with four three-pointers made, nine rebounds, four assists, a steal, and a block in 36 minutes in his Heat debut against the Orlando Magic. Despite the loss, it was a great first impression.

Fast forward to Powell's first home game as a member of the Heat, on Sunday night against the New York Knicks, he finished with 29 points, along with three three-pointers made, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals in 32 minutes. That time, they finished on the winning side of the game.

Powell has been the Heat's leading scorer in two of the first three games of the season, currently averaging 24 points, 7.3 rebounds, three assists, and two steals, while shooting 47.7 percent from the field, 50 percent from three-point range. It's still early, but if he manages to sustain this level of production, it could result in another career season.

Powell already made Heat history by scoring the most points by any player in the first three games with the franchise, a total of 72.

To accomplish something with an organization that's had multiple Hall of Famers come through, it speaks to Powell's great level of work and production on the court.

It's worth noting that the Heat acquired him without giving up a first-round pick. A massive steal from the offseason.

Powell is providing more than just a spark; he's been electrifying for the team. He played a strong role in the Toronto Raptors' championship run in 2019, which can boost the Heat's chances in an Eastern Conference that is viewed to be in a weak state currently.

Powell's hot start to the season has been outstanding, but maintaining it would be extraordinary.
