This is exactly what a home grown team is supposed to look like. The Charlotte Hornets have been blossoming and turning heads nationally for the entire month of January. More and more people asking the question, "Are the Hornets for real?"
I believe so. You can say it with me. The Charlotte Hornets are a good basketball team and right now they're the hottest team in the NBA.
Something special is happening in Charlotte and you can feel it every time they take the court lately. Charlotte took down the San Antonio Spurs 111–106 at the Spectrum Center, extending their season-best win streak to six straight and cementing themselves as exactly what a modern homegrown franchise should look like.
This isn’t fluky. It isn’t a random hot stretch. It’s a young group learning to win together, figuring out their identity, and growing right in front of us.
At the heart of it all? Brandon Miller, who is becoming one of the new stars of the NBA right before our eyes. He poured in 26 points and eight rebounds, taking control of the game when it mattered most. Collin Sexton was automatic from deep, hitting all five of his three-point attempts off the bench and scoring 21 huge points, spacing the floor and lifting the energy.
LaMelo Ball flirted with a triple-double and orchestrated the offense with flair and control. Moussa Diabate anchored the paint with a 12 point double-double. This wasn’t just scoring — it was team basketball.
Charlotte built a big third-quarter lead and though the Spurs made a late surge to cut the game to two with about a minute and a half to go, the Hornets held firm in front of their home crowd.
Charlotte has climbed back into the playoff picture and are two games back of the Chicago Bulls from being in the play-in. The Hornets are a team that truly believes in themselves and it all started with that 27 point win in OKC at the beginning of the month according to Kon Knueppel.
This is what a homegrown team looks like: trusted draft stars leading the way, complementary pieces stepping up, and a young group that has learned how to win and refuses to fold under pressure thanks to the coaching of Charles Lee. Fun times ahead in Charlotte.
