The Last Couple Games Were Nice Moments of Growth for the Charlotte Hornets, but Tonight Showed They Are Nowhere Near Where They Want to Be After 113-106 Loss to Brooklyn Nets.

The Charlotte Hornets now have a trend of going on the road against the worst teams in the NBA and not being able to be the better team.

After back to back wins at home against the Bulls and Raptors, the Hornets had a chance to at least show that they belong in the next floor up from the bottom of the NBA at the Brooklyn Nets who, before tonight, were 4-15 overall and 0-9 at home.

This the third time this season the Hornets have been in a situation where they were going up against the bottom of the NBA and couldn't get it done.

The first coming a month ago against the Pelicans who were searching for their first win of the season at the time and the second coming a couple weeks against the 1-13 (at the time) Eastern Conference worst, Indiana Pacers.

Tonight there were a couple of themes for the Hornets. For starters, they just looked sloppy. They had 18 total turnovers, tonight, which turned into 27 points for the Nets.

Charlotte also completely struggled to score in the second half going 35 percent from the field. It seemed like there was a lid on the basket at times, even for Kon Knueppel who had the team high 18 points tonight,

Defensively, the Hornets struggled to contain Michael Porter Jr. who went off for 35 points. Rookie out of Michigan, Danny Wolf, provided a meaningful 10 point off the Nets bench, including 8 of which came in the fourth quarter. He also absolutely put Miles Bridges in a poster as the game was starting to get out of hand for Charlotte.

Tonight did not feature Brandon Miller who is still working his way back into the swing of things after retiring from his shoulder injury. You'll likely see him back in action when the Hornets take on the Knicks in MSG on Wednesday night.

Right now, the Charlotte Hornets are simply trying to take the little steps necessary to get themselves out of the bottom tier of the NBA and nights like these are ones that have to be taken care of handily in order to do that. So far this season, the Hornets have not shown the ability to do that just yet.
