A blockbuster NBA trade idea sending a 10-time All-Star to the Hornets has been created.
The Ringer created the following trade idea between the Hornets and Mavericks:
Hornets receive: Anthony Davis
Mavericks receive: Miles Bridges, Collin Sexton, and three future first-round picks (including the Mavs’ 2027 first-rounder)
The Mavericks are expected to trade Davis after firing Nico Harrison on Tuesday. Davis is currently out with a calf injury. He's averaging 20.8 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game on the season while shooting 52.0% from the field, 27.3% from beyond the arc and 74.2% from the free-throw line.
The Hornets, who haven't made the playoffs since 2016, would have a talented "Big 3" of Davis, LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller if Davis landed in Charlotte.
One of the best players in NBA history, Davis is making $54.1 million this season. The future Hall of Famer always gets hurt, but when he's healthy, he's a force on both ends of the court.
"I’m not saying that now is the ideal time for the Hornets to take a big win-now swing, but I do think that AD likely represents Charlotte’s best opportunity to level up in the immediate future," The Ringer wrote. "Davis is a bona fide star when healthy—an elite offensive finisher and the most impactful defender this side of Victor Wembanyama. Teams like Houston, Portland, and Detroit have shown in recent years that surrounding a promising young core with high-impact veterans can have a catalyzing effect on both winning and development.
"And given Charlotte’s built-in disadvantages in free agency, why not bring in a proven star at a position of need who’s under contract for two more seasons after this one? Best-case scenario, AD helps professionalize this roster and elevate it into the playoff picture ahead of its schedule in a very weak conference.
"Worst case, he misses significant time with injuries and ties up the team’s books for a few seasons, while still making a positive impact whenever he can play. It’s not risk-free, but the upside outweighs the downside for a franchise that hasn’t been relevant in … forever?"
Davis has played for the Pelicans, Lakers and Mavericks. He has career averages of 24.1 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.
