Before the Charlotte Hornets lost to the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday, Bucks head coach Doc Rivers was asked about Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball.
Rivers, one of the best coaches in NBA history, is a big fan of Ball's game.
"He's just creative," Rivers said about Ball. "I mean, the guy is so skilled, so talented, the game almost comes too easy for him (with) his passing. It's funny, when you go in a game, you don't know if he's going to be a 3-point shooter that night or is he just going to be a point guard to get everybody else involved. And you have to get in the game and find out which way he's going. He's that talented."
Ball put up 26 points and seven assists against the Bucks in 29 minutes. He shot 9/23 from the field, 6/13 from 3 and a perfect 2/2 of the free-throw line.
Many people who cover the NBA believe Ball is the most overrated player in the league because he doesn't take the game seriously and is not an efficient shooter. Clearly, Rivers is not in that camp.
Neither is Hornets head coach Charles Lee.
"Yeah, I thought offensively, he gave us some good things, created really well for us," Lee said after the Hornets lost to the Bucks. "What, 7 assists? It contributed to a ton of the playmaking that we had out there. We've just got to be able to knock down a few more of those jumpers, get to our stuff a little bit quicker and be a little bit sharper in our execution. "But Melo had a good little bounce to him. I thought it carried over sometimes with some of his defensive possessions, too."
The Hornets dropped to 11-21 after losing to the Bucks. They are in 12th place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Ball, who is getting a lot of All-Star votes from fans, has played in 22 games this season. He's averaging 20.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 8.4 assists per game.
