Charlotte Hornets head coach Charles Lee wasn't happy with his team's effort against the Boston Celtics.
The Charlotte Hornets dropped their preseason game to the Boston Celtics on Wednesday, falling 114-93.
In the game, Charlotte surrendered 30 turnovers, which simply won't get the job done. But even with these issues, the Hornets were able to keep the contest close enough.
However, as the team gets ready for the start of the regular season next week, there are multiple areas that head coach Charles Lee wants to see cleaned up. The biggest is a consistent effort from his players over all four quarters.
After the loss, Lee discussed the game, talking about his desire to have a more consistent effort during the game. Lee understands that there will be different flows throughout a game, but he wants his team to start building strong habits now, before the year gets going.
Winning games in the NBA is all about putting together four quarters of play, and the league is too talented to let up at all. The Hornets are still learning this, and it was apparant against the Celtics.
Charlotte was outscored by eight points in the first quarter and by 13 in the fourth quarter, leading to the loss. But in the second and third quarters, the Hornets were able to hang with the Celtics, even winning the third.
Part of what has helped keep the Hornets alive in the preseason has been the strong shooting from beyond the three-point arc. Charlotte entered the game with Boston tied for second in three-point shots made this season per game.
The Hornets had an explosive offense last year, and the team is looking to keep that going strong again this season. This group wants to run up and down the court, giving opposing defenses all sorts of fits during games.
Charlotte was missing forward Kon Knueppel, who remains out with a hamstring injury for the team. But the Hornets are hopeful to get Knueppel back in time for the team's opener against the Brooklyn Nets on October 21
The Hornets will need to put in a better effort in their final preseason game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, with Lee hoping to see stronger play from his team. Charlotte has to start learning how to win games for the team to take the next step this season, and it all begins with preparation in the preseason.
This team has the tools to be successful this season, but nothing will be handed to them. Charlotte will be looking to prove many people wrong this year, as the franchise tries to break a long playoff drought.
