The Charlotte Hornets take on the Bulls in Chicago on Tuesday and it looks like Coby White will make his Hornets debut against his old team.
Charlotte has upgraded White to probable for the Chicago game.
The Hornets and Bulls amended the White trade, according to Fred Katz of The Athletic, because White's physical with Charlotte revealed a left calf injury.
The Hornets sent two second-rounders (2031 NYK, 2031 DEN) to the Bulls instead of three.
White is in the final year of his contract. He becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
The scoring guard is averaging 18.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game this season while shooting 43.8% from the field, 34.6% from beyond the arc and 80.5% from the free-throw line.
White has career averages of 15.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. He scored a career-high 44 points against the Orlando Magic last season.
“[Coby’s] a guy that plays the game with joy [and] with passion,” said Hornets President of Basketball Operations Jeff Peterson. “He's a winner. He loves to compete and as you can see, that's what we want to be about here. Continue to add guys who compete on both sides of the ball. He's a dynamic shooter [and] his offensive skill set is high-level. He can really stretch the floor with his shooting, especially shooting off the dribble. He makes it very tough for defenders to guard him. They have to switch up their coverages on him. I think he's an underrated passer and, again, just his overall competitive makeup. Any time we can bolster the roster with talent, I'm going to be strategic and do that.”
The Hornets are 27-31 on the season. They are in 10th place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Charlotte is averaging 115.6 points per game on the season. That number will rise once White joins the lineup.
