The Charlotte Hornets have quietly been building something very positive for the last couple of years, but in spite of their efforts, they still have some pretty glaring holes.
Most notably, the Hornets' frontcourt rotation is very thin, especially after trading away Jusuf Nurkic during the offseason. Yes, Charlotte selected 7-foot-1 center Ryan Kalkbrenner in the second round of the NBA Draft, but the Hornets could definitely use a more proven option (and no, Mason Plumlee is not the answer).
Bleacher Report's Greg Swartz has identified who he feels would be a great trade target for Charlotte, proposing that the Hornets swing a trade for Cleveland Cavaliers big man Jarrett Allen.
"Jarrett Allen has been a big part of the Cleveland Cavaliers' recent success, although he's set to begin a new three-year, $90 million extension next year and the Cavs are already the most expensive team in basketball," Swartz wrote. "The Hornets should check on Allen's availability throughout the season, as the 27-year-old is the ideal lob finisher alongside LaMelo Ball and is one of the better rim protectors and rebounders in the NBA."
Allen played in all 82 games last season, averaging 13.5 points and 9.7 rebounds over 28 minutes per game while shooting 70.6 percent from the floor.
The University of Texas product has spent the last five-and-a-half seasons with the Cavaliers, earning an All-Star appearance back during the 2021-22 campaign when he posted 16.1 points and 10.8 boards a night.
While Allen doesn't have much of an offensive repertoire, he is a terrific screen-and-roll man and could definitely form quite a duo with Ball in that regard. He is also a very good defender, capable of protecting the rim and stepping out and guarding on the perimeter.
Of course, Cleveland probably isn't looking to move Allen just yet, as the Cavs won 64 games last season and should be the favorites to win the Eastern Conference this coming season. If things go south for the Cavaliers for some reason, though, perhaps Allen could become available, and Charlotte would comprise a fantastic destination for the former first-round pick.
