Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball just achieved an amazing feat.

Entering the 2025-26 NBA campaign, perhaps the biggest question for the Charlotte Hornets was whether or not LaMelo Ball would actually be available.

Ball played in 36, 22 and 47 games, respectively, the preceding three seasons, and early on this year, he missed time yet again with another ankle issue.

Injuries had absolutely derailed a scintillating start by Ball, who won the Rookie of the Year award in 2020-21 and made an All-Star appearance the following season.

But now, Ball is finally staying healthy, and during the Hornets' latest win over the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night, he achieved a stunning record.

In draining six three-pointers during his 30-point performance, Ball became the fastest player in NBA history to reach 900 made threes in his career, doing so in 287 games. The previous record was held by Duncan Robinson, who did it over 305 contests.

Why is this so surprising? Well, for a couple of reasons.

First of all, Ball has never been a lights-out long-range shooter. He is a lifetime 36.4 percent shooter from deep, which, while solid, is hardly elite. Last year, for example, the 24-year-old connected on just 33.9 percent of his triples.

Second, because Ball is in and out of the lineup so much, it's surprising that he even got the chance to set this record.

The former No. 3 overall pick participated in 126 games over his first two NBA seasons before the injuries started to hit, and it was looking more and more like Ball's $204 million contract extension was an albatross for Charlotte.

But perhaps Ball has gotten his injuries out of the way early, much like Stephen Curry did during his premature days with the Golden State Warriors.

Hopefully that's the case, because the Hornets team is clearly dangerous.

Charlotte has been one of the best clubs in basketball the last couple of months, and while Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel — among others — have also been driving forces, we can't deny that Ball is at the center of it all.

No, Ball is not the most efficient player in the world, and he still lacks defensive acumen, but there is no doubting his immensely positive effect on the Hornets this season. Let's hope it continues in the years to come.
