Dennis Schroder made a strong claim on his trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Charlotte Hornets.
The Charlotte Hornets acquired Dennis Schroder and cash in a deal that sent Tre Mann to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Schroder is a quality veteran point guard, and he made a bold claim after the trade. "When you have two legends in your position who bring the ball up the court and play a lot of isolation, then it’s just difficult," Schroder said about playing for the Cavs.
The 32-year-old went on to say the Hornets will be "a better situation for me."
Schroder will be the primary backup guard for Charlotte behind Coby White. In the 2025-26 season, he appeared in 70 games, averaging 10.8 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game, shooting 40.5 percent from the field and 32.9 percent from three.
While he didn't shoot efficiently last season, Schroder is still a solid role player and can be a reliable backup for the Hornets. Charlotte's other point guard off the bench is Christian Anderson Jr., who is unproven as he will be a rookie in the 2026-27 season.

Anderson averaged 18.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and a conference-leading 7.4 assists per game while shooting 47.2 percent from the field and 41.5 percent from three.
While the 20-year-old develops at the NBA level, Charlotte has Schroder, who can serve as the backup point guard and mentor for Anderson.
The Hornets have made a plethora of roster changes this offseason, headlined by moving All-Star guard LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Naz Reid and draft capital. That paved the way for White to become the starting point guard, as they inked him to a three-year, $74 million extension.
Despite all the moves, Charlotte still has a competitive roster with the young duo of Kon Knueppel and Brandon Miller leading the way.
The roster may have a ton of young players, but mixing in veterans like Schroder is valuable as the Hornets look to make another push to the Play-In Tournament or into the playoffs.
