Hornets, Brandon Miller Agree on Massive Five-Year Contract Extension

After much speculation entering the new NBA season, the Charlotte Hornets and star forward Brandon Miller have agreed to a new contract extension.

Charlotte is giving Miller a new five-year, $209 million rookie-scale contract extension before the new season starts. NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN reported the news on social media.

Miller is entering the most crucial season of his NBA career, with the Hornets handing him the keys to the franchise. Charlotte traded away star guard LaMelo Ball over the offseason, seeing the organization undergo a youth movement, with Miller at the center of it all.

The Hornets have a lot of faith in Miller to be able to take that next step in his overall development this season, and this contract extension seems to reflect that. This deal had been discussed at length for some time, and it now gets settled with just days to go before the 2026-27 season kicks off.

In 65 games last season for Charlotte, Miller averaged 20.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.7 block per contest. Miller also shot 38.3 percent from beyond the three-point line, showing even more improvement in his shooting from distance.

This year, the Hornets are likely going to need Miller to step up his game even more, potentially getting the scoring average closer to 23 points per game. If he can do this, the Hornets will feel even more justified in the contract and the trade of Ball.

Miller will pair with young forward Kon Knueppel as the two main players for Charlotte this season and beyond. The duo could be special for this Hornets team, and they will be trying to get this team back into the playoffs.

The Hornets have built the roster around these two players, with Miller being the focal point of the group. Charlotte will be relying on Miller to become even more of a leader as well, helping this team navigate the long regular season.

If he can make this happen, the Hornets will have a good chance to get into the playoffs, even with the Eastern Conference being stronger this season. Charlotte has multiple quality players on the roster around Knueppel and Miller, giving this team strong depth throughout.

Miller and the Hornets will begin the new NBA season on the road against the Brooklyn Nets this week. Charlotte then will have its home opener against the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night.
