One forward from the Charlotte Hornets gave a championship take on the team's depth this year.
The Charlotte Hornets will be entering the 2026-27 NBA season ready to prove a lot of people wrong following a strong offseason.
Charlotte moved on from star guard LaMelo Ball, opening the door for more of a youth movement to take over the roster. Without Ball and forward Miles Bridges on the roster, it will now be the Brandon Miller show for the Hornets as the top option.
But the Hornets have a ton of depth across the team, giving thought to Miller not having to do it all alone. This is especially true in the frontcourt, where the Hornets built up a deeper roster than many expected.
This should help the Hornets be able to play much stronger throughout the NBA season, giving them a chance to get into the playoffs. But if you ask one player on Charlotte's roster, the team may have more aspirations than that.
When speaking exclusively to Hornets on SI, forward Grant Williams had a bold take on the team's frontcourt depth. Williams said that the versatility of Charlotte is "championship-caliber" entering the NBA season.
Charlotte has Williams, Naz Reid, Hannes Steinbach, Ryan Kalkbrenner, Moussa Diabate, and Tidjane Salaun to use at their disposal this season. Having all of these guys gives the Hornets a chance to switch players depending on matchups and in-game situations as the year goes on.
Many of these players can shoot, which will add an extra element to the Hornets' offensive attack. Charlotte was already one of the stronger offensive teams a year ago, and adding more shooting only helps everything.
The big addition in the frontcourt was Reid, who comes to the Hornets in the deal that sent Ball out of town. Charlotte is very excited to see what Reid can do on both ends of the floor, and he will be given a larger role than he's ever had.
Reid has the ability to step out behind the three-point line to knock down shots, while also being a strong defender as well. The big man has mainly been the Sixth Man with the Minnesota Timberwolves, but he will start for the Hornets this year, in all likelihood.
Overall, the Hornets' depth can be a strength of this team heading into the new season, and it could end up proving Williams right. But only time will tell how far this group can go, especially with the East being much stronger this time around.
