Kon Knueppel Opens Up About Hornets' Huge Upset Win Over Thunder cover image

Kon Knueppel and the Charlotte Hornets beat the Oklahoma City Thunder by 27 points.

The Charlotte Hornets pulled off one of the biggest upsets in franchise history on Monday, beating the Oklahoma City Thunder by 27 points. 

The Thunder entered the game has huge favorites since they were 30-6, but the Hornets destroyed the defending champions to improve to 13-23. 

After the game, Charlotte rookie Kon Knueppel spoke about the massive win. 

Knueppel, who could win the Rookie of the Year Award this season, put up 23 points, five rebounds and five assists against the Thunder. The Duke product shot 8-of-13 from the field, 5-of-7 from 3 and 2-of-3 from the foul line. 

After the Thunder game, Knueppel is now averaging 19.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game on the season while shooting 48.3% overall, 43.5% from beyond the arc and 87.9% from the free-throw line. 

Charlotte is in 12th place in the Eastern Conference standings. They need to be in the top-10 to qualify for the NBA play-in tournament (the top six seeds automatically make the playoffs). 

The Hornets may not make the playoffs this season, but at least they have a talented young building block in Knueppel.
