    This is hilarious.

The Timberwolves had the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and selected Anthony Edwards.

However, Minnesota thought about taking LaMelo Ball before the guard said he wanted to be President of the United States.

Ball won the 2020-21 Rookie of the Year Award with the Hornets. However, Charlotte has had only one winning season in the Ball era and has never made the playoffs.

Meanwhile, Edwards has guided the Timberwolves to the Western Conference Finals twice.

Ball is making $37.9 million this season. He's currently out with an ankle injury. The talented guard is averaging 23.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 9.8 assists per game while shooting 43.0% from the field, 33.3% from beyond the arc and 81.5% from the free-throw line.

The Hornets signed Ball to a five-year, $203 million extension in 2023. As of now, there are no rumors that Charlotte is looking to trade Ball, who doesn't have a no-trade clause in his contract.

Ball has played in 237 games with the Hornets. He's averaging 21.1 points, 6.0 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game.

Ball is a talented scorer and passer, but his style of play and approach to the game continue to be questioned around the league.

One NBA scout, who works for a Western Conference team, told ESPN that Ball "doesn't take basketball seriously enough."

"Yes, he's talented, but he doesn't take basketball seriously enough," the NBA scout said. "It's hard to build a winner with him because of how he plays, and the liberties he takes for himself when he plays.

"Would someone take a flier on him? For sure. But Charlotte isn't taking a flier price for him."

The Timberwolves clearly made the right choice by taking Edwards over Ball. Moving forward, it will be interesting to see if the Hornets trade Ball and build the franchise around Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel.

Ball is from California, so he's been linked to the Lakers and Clippers in the past.
