An NBA trade idea sending a three-time All-Star to the Charlotte Hornets has been created.
Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report proposed that the Hornets acquire Bam Adebayo from the Miami Heat.
Charlotte Hornets Acquire: Bam Adebayo
Miami Heat Acquire: Miles Bridges, Kon Knueppel, 2027 first-round pick (own), 2027 first-round pick (via DAL; top-two protected), 2028 first-round pick (top-four protected), 2029 first-round swap, 2030 first-round swap
Adebayo is one of the top two-way players in the NBA. He appeared in 78 games for the Heat last season, averaging 18.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.7 blocks while shooting 48.5% from the field, 35.7% from beyond the arc and 76.5% from the free-throw line.
A three-time All-Star, Adebayo will make $37.1 million this season. He has career averages of 15.7 points, 8.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.9 blocks. The 28-year-old doesn't have a no-trade clause in his contract.
This NBA trade idea would pair Adebayo with LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller.
"Charlotte has been deliberate in its rebuild, so this kind of swing would be way out of character," Hughes wrote. "Still, Ball is entering his sixth NBA season, as fellow theoretical building block, Miller, enters his third. At some point, the Hornets need to see what their top young talent can do in a more competitive setting. Adebayo, who is just 28 years old, fits the timeline and elevates the product to new heights on both ends."
The Hornets haven't made the playoffs since 2016. They would be a playoff contender with Adebayo in the fold next to Ball and Miller.
Ball finished last season with averages of 25.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 7.4 assists, while Miller put up 21.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game.
Charlotte won only 19 games last season. The franchise hasn't had a winning record since the 2021-22 season (43-39).
The Hornets drafted Ball with the third overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. Ball won the 2020-21 Rookie of the Year Award and made the 2022 All-Star team, but Charlotte is just 98-133 when the guard plays.
Ball and Miller need more talent around them to make some noise in the Eastern Conference this season, which is why Hughes thinks the Hornets' front office should aggressively try to trade for Adebayo.
