An NBA trade idea sending a future Hall of Famer to the Charlotte Hornets has been created.
NBA writer Sam Quinn of CBS Sports created a trade idea where the Hornets acquire Anthony Davis from the Dallas Mavericks.
Mavericks receive: Miles Bridges, Josh Green, Grant Williams, Pat Connaughton, Mason Plumlee, 2027 first-round pick (via Mavericks)
Hornets receive: Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, D'Angelo Russell
The Mavericks are looking to trade Davis before the 2026 NBA trade deadline. This trade idea would pair Davis with LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel.
Davis has ligament damage in his left hand, but the Chicago native has opted not to undergo surgery, meaning he could play again this season. The 10-time All-Star is averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.7 blocks per game on the season, which are terrific numbers.
The Hornets could make a push for the play-in or playoffs with Davis next to Ball, Miller and Knueppel. Davis is injury-prone, but when he's healthy, he's one of the best two-way players in the game.
Davis is expected to be out for the next six weeks. The Mavericks have had renewed trade talks around Davis with multiple interested teams, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.
The Hornets have not been linked to Davis in trade rumors, but that could change. After all, no one thought the Mavericks would trade Luka Doncic to the Lakers for Davis last season.
Charlotte is 14-26 on the season. They are in 12th place in the Eastern Conference standings and five games back of the Chicago Bulls for the 10th spot.
A top 75 player of all time, Davis has played for the New Orleans Pelicans, Lakers and Mavericks. He holds career averages of 24.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.3 blocks per game. The Kentucky product won the 2020 championship with the Lakers.
It will be fascinating to see if the Hornets try to trade for Davis. His agent is Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group, who represents Bridges, so Paul already has a working relationship with Charlotte's front office.
