An offseason NBA trade proposal sending two Detroit Pistons players to the Charlotte Hornets has been created.
In a story titled "A 3-Team Trade Idea to Find the Perfect Home for Michael Porter Jr.," Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report created the following trade proposal:
Detroit Pistons Acquire: Michael Porter Jr., 2026 first-round pick (via CHA)
Charlotte Hornets Acquire: Ausar Thompson, Paul Reed
Brooklyn Nets Acquire: Miles Bridges, Duncan Robinson, 2027 first-round pick (most favorable of CHA/DAL)
The Hornets are parting ways with Bridges and getting Thompson and Reed from the Pistons in this trade proposal.
Thompson is one of the top two-way players in the NBA and he's only 23. Imagine him on the wing next to Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel.
For the Pistons this season, Thompson is averaging 10.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 51.7% from the field. He's an elite athlete who can get to the rim at will and finish in heavy traffic and guard positions 1-4.
"Charlotte is going to need a vice-grip stopper to shield Ball, Knueppel and Miller from the toughest matchups, and Thompson can absolutely fill that role," Hughes wrote. "As a bonus, his severe shooting limitations will matter less in an offense as varied and dynamic as this one. Better still, his speed and force in transition could add an even more dangerous element to what the Hornets already do so well.
"Bridges, whom Thompson would replace, is a middling scorer who has never been regarded as a passable defender. If Charlotte is going to take up residence in the contender class for 2026-27, his spot in the lineup is the one that needs improving."
The Hornets are having a special 2025-26 season and Bridges has been a huge reason why the team has played well on both sides of the ball. However, Thompson is younger than Bridges and is only going to get better. Meanwhile, a case can be made that Bridges has peaked as an NBA player.
Charlotte could start Ball, Thompson, Knueppel, Miller and Moussa Diabate next season. That's a lethal starting lineup with shooting, defense and playmaking.
