Report: Charlotte Hornets Could Make Big Trade With Cleveland Cavaliers cover image

The Charlotte Hornets and Cleveland Cavaliers have been talking.

According to NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, the Charlotte Hornets could make a big trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Hornets could acquire Lonzo Ball from the Cavaliers. Lonzo, of course, is LaMelo Ball's older brother.

"Sources say there has been some preliminary conversation between the Cavaliers and Hornets about Ball trade constructions that could furnish Charlotte with second-round draft capital and thus enable the Hornets to pair the elder Ball with his younger brother LaMelo," Stein and Fischer wrote.

"Charlotte, Brooklyn and Utah, according to league sources, are all teams that have been looking to facilitate multi-team trades or take on unwanted salary in exchange for draft pick compensation."

The Hornets are the hottest team in the NBA. They have won seven games in a row and are just one game back of the Atlanta Hawks for the 10th spot in the East. Remember, seeds 7-10 make the NBA play-in tournament.

Lonzo is making $10 million this season. The Cavaliers acquired him from the Chicago Bulls last offseason. The UCLA product is averaging 4.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game while shooting 30.1% from the field, 27.2% from beyond the arc and 66.7% from the free-throw line.

Meanwhile, LaMelo is playing at a really high level for the Hornets. He's averaging 19.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game while shooting 40.6% from the field, 36.3% from beyond the arc and 88.8% from the free-throw line.

It will be fascinating to see if the Ball brothers become teammates in Charlotte soon. Someone check on LaVar Ball right now. He must be having a field day.
