The Charlotte Hornets are sending Miles Bridges to the Phoenix Suns in a major trade.

The Charlotte Hornets are continuing to retool the roster as they are sending Miles Bridges, a 2029 first-round pick, and a 2027 second-round pick to the Phoenix Suns for Grayson Allen, Royce O'Neale, and a 2033 first-round pick.

It's a major move for the Hornets, who have already traded star guard LaMelo Ball this offseason.

Charlotte has sent a clear message with their moves this offseason that they didn't feel confident in the team's long-term future and want to build around their budding stars, Kon Knueppel and Brandon Miller.

Bridges was entering the final year of his contract, making $22.8 million. The 28-year-old was coming off a solid season for the Hornets, as he averaged 17.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game, shooting 46 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three.

Moving on from Bridges opens the door for Naz Reid to start at power forward for Charlotte in the 2026-27 season. Reid was a part of the return for Ball and is coming off a productive season, as he averaged 13.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, a steal, and a block per game while shooting 45.6 percent from the floor and 36.2 percent from deep.

In addition to opening up a starting spot for Reid, the Bridges trades two veteran rotational pieces.

The Hornets have a young roster, and having two contributing veterans off the bench with Allen and O'Neale will be valuable.

Allen played well for the Suns in the 2025-26 season, averaging 16.5 points, three rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.4 steals per game, shooting 40.3 percent from the field and 34.9 percent from behind the arc. He will make $18.1 million this season with a $19.3 million player option for the 2027-28 season.

O'Neale could also be impactful off the bench for Charlotte, as he averaged 9.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game, shooting 42.1 percent from the floor and 40.8 percent from distance. The 33-year-old has two years remaining on his contract, making $10.8 million this season and $11.6 million in the 2027-28 season.

The Hornets have been very active in making moves through the draft and via trade, and Bridges is the latest Hornet to be on the way out.
