The Hornets are open to trading Sexton, who becomes an unrestricted free agent after this season.
"I've likewise heard that Minnesota has conducted some diligence on Charlotte's Collin Sexton," Fischer wrote. "The Wolves seem to be intent on establishing their range of options at the position. Sources say that the Hornets, furthermore, are also open for business to a degree, but that might only mean shopping veteran guard Collin Sexton as Charlotte — sporting the league's longest playoff drought at nine seasons and counting — clings to hope that it can still be a Play-In team."
Sexton has appeared in 21 games for the Hornets this season. He's averaging 15.5 points, 2.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game while shooting 48.9% from the field, 36.6% from beyond the arc and 87.9% from the free-throw line.
Charlotte is only 9-20. They are in 12th place in the East.
Meanwhile, the Timberwolves are 19-10. They are in fifth place in the West. Minnesota has reached the conference finals two years in a row.
Sexton, 26, has played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Utah Jazz and Hornets. He holds career averages of 18.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. The Alabama product doesn't have a no-trade clause in his contract.
One of the best defenders in the NBA, Sexton has never been to the playoffs. He deserves to be on a winning team at this stage of his career, so it will be fascinating to see if the Hornets trade "Young Bull" to a contender.
