The Charlotte Hornets could lose Coby White to the Detroit Pistons.

The Detroit Pistons are interested in signing Charlotte Hornets guard Coby White, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line.

Before free agency starts on June 30, the Hornets can sign White to a three-year, $52.4 million extension.

If White hits free agency, he can meet with other teams like the Pistons.

The Hornets acquired White from the Chicago Bulls in February. In 21 games with Charlotte, White played well. He averaged 15.6 points per game while shooting 46.1% from the field, 39.1% from beyond the arc and 83.9% from the foul line.

Charlotte beat the Miami Heat in the first play-in game but lost to the Orlando Magic in the second one. As a result, the Hornets missed the playoffs again.

Meanwhile, the Pistons lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round in seven games after beating the Magic in the first round in seven games.

The 26-year-old White finished the 2025-26 season averaging 17.4 points per game with the Bulls and Hornets, who want to re-sign the talented scoring guard.

However, money talks in the NBA. If the Pistons offer White more money than the Hornets, Charlotte will lose White.

"Like I said when we traded for Coby, we envisioned him as somebody who's going to be with the Hornets for a long time," Hornets general manager Jeff Peterson told reporters during his exit interview. "I'm excited to see what this offseason looks like. He gets a full offseason with us and then going into next season as well."

Chicago drafted White with the seventh overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. White has career averages of 15.4 points per game.

Most people who cover the NBA believe the Hornets will re-sign White since they gave up assets to acquire him from the Bulls. However, until pen is put to paper, White is free game for everyone.

Along with the Pistons, White has also been linked to the Brooklyn Nets, who have a ton of cap space this offseason.
