According to Hornets General Manager Jeff Peterson, he can be one of the greatest to play the game.
“Brandon can be as good as he wants to be,” Peterson said during Hornets media day. “He can be a Hall of Famer… We look for him to take a jump not only on the court but as a leader.”
In the first two seasons of his career, Miller has shown an innate ability to adapt to the NBA game and was working his way to becoming an All Star last season.
The only problem was, Miller underwent a series of injuries that halted any momentum he generated in the first month of the season, including a wrist surgery that he suffered in January that kept him out all season.
Luckily now, Miller is healthy and reports coming out of training camp is that he looks fantastic.
"I saw a little bit more alpha come out of him,” Hornets head coach Charles Lee said. “There were moments today where his group was either up or down, it's a pivotal moment, and instead of taking a backseat, he rallied the troops, told them what he needed. He took the ball in his hands. He wanted to guard the best players.”
Lee had also mentioned that the time away from the game truly helped Miller gain an appreciation of what it’s like to be a true leader of a team.
"The time away from basketball, he was able to learn a ton. He was able to find his voice a little bit more by building those really strong relationships, and he showed it in a major way today here at practice."
It shouldn’t be a question, but Miller taking an active approach in making the Hornets is massive for the franchise.
Charlotte has only made the playoffs three times since basketball returned to the Queen City in 2004, and the last time it had a true alpha was Kemba Walker, who helped lead the Hornets to the playoffs two of those times.
The Hornets bring in one of the more versatile draft classes this season with players like Kon Kneuppel, Liam McNeeley, Sion James and Ryan Kalkbrenner, and there’s nothing that can help their development more than a legitimate leader.
With a hopefully healthy season ahead, can this be the season where Miller develops into an All-NBA type of player?
