Despite his vital mentorship role and praise from teammates, the veteran forward appears destined for a championship reunion elsewhere rather than a return to Salt Lake City.
As the Utah Jazz prepare to fight for a spot in the postseason for the first time in four years, surrounding their young core with veteran leadership and experience will be vastly important.
That's part of the reason why Utah added Josh Okogie, a three-and-D wing whose 21 playoff game appearances now ranks second on the team only behind Jaren Jackson Jr.'s 27.
... but even as the Jazz stock up on vets, one of Utah's locker room leaders from a season ago shouldn't be expected back in Salt Lake City.
Kevin Love spent the 18th season of his career as a mentor to the Jazz's youngsters, and he certainly made an impact. See below what second-year forward Ace Bailey had to say about Love's leadership.
"Very important," Love said when asked of Love's importance." I ask Kevin questions almost every other day about life in general, whether it's small stuff or big stuff. So, that's great to have that person in your life."
Love appeared in 37 games for Utah in 2025-26, playing 16.6 minutes while producing 6.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. He proved that he's still capable of contributing on the floor — even if the bulk of his value is in the locker room.
Lauri Markkanen echoed Bailey's sentiment, expressing the importance of both Jusuf Nurkic and Love being back with the Jazz next season.
"I would love to have both of them back. Really good friends with both. I think it would be a big thing for us..." Markkanen said. "I think those veteran guys who've been through it are very important."
Nurkic was inked to a two-year, $22 million deal before free agency opened, yet Love remains available.
But if Utah brought Nurkic back, why should Jazz fans anticipate Love's departure?
"I wouldn't be surprised if Kevin Love is considered a plus-one to any team that acquires LeBron James," The People's Insider Jake Fischer said during a Bleacher Report live stream with fellow NBA insider Marc Stein.
So there it is.
Love will likely follow James wherever he ultimately ends up rather than return to Utah to serve as a mentor for another season ... and who can blame him?
James' next destination is likely to instantly be labeled a title contender, and given Love's championship relationship with the NBA's all-time leading scorer, a reunion seems like a forgone conclusion.
While the Jazz may lose one of their most respected veterans, Love will have served his purpose in Salt Lake City.
