Keegan Murray, Dennis Schroeder Help Will Kings to Stunner Over Rockets cover image

Sacramento watched Murray step up as the top scorer, but Schroeder delivered the final dagger.

The Sacramento Kings appear to be playing musical chairs with their lead scorers.

Dennis Schroeder became the top shooter off the bench nearly 24 hours ago. This time Keegan Murray took that mantle, but Schroeder topped off the scoring on Sunday night against the Houston Rockets.

Murray ended the night with 26 points while Schroder added 24 including the go-ahead three-pointer to win 125-124 in overtime.

Again, Murray exploded as the lead scorer, including showing his marksman side from deep.

Fans and analysts reacted to his performances -- with ABC 10 sports anchor Matt George becoming the most vocal toward the Kings.

"Keegan Murray had 12 points on 3/3 from the field in that first half. (5/5 from the foul line!)," George began on X, formerly known as Twitter. "Maybe try and get him the ball more in the second half? Just a thought."

Murray continued to be fed the ball. He dropped 14 points through the third and fourth quarter.  His play helped force overtime for Sacramento while winning over another analyst.

"Keegan Murray is the reason for hope in Sacramento," posted NBA insider Tony Jones of The Athletic.

Sunday became Murray's first 20-point outburst since Nov. 28 against the Utah Jazz. It's also the third time this season Murray crossed over that scoring threshold.

Schroeder then took up the scoring slack in the extra period. He hit the first basket off a four-foot two-pointer. He later blitzed inside to nail his running layup at the 1:27 mark. Schroeder then drew a foul and made both free throws with under a minute left in overtime.

The 32-year-old stuck the dagger in with 3.1 seconds left -- banking a 26-footer for three while all alone on the left hand side of the floor.

Murray ended his evening lighting the famed beam, which is tradition for Sacramento home games when its team wins.

Schroeder, again, earned his points off the bench. But he and Murray weren't the only ones to surpass the 20-point mark.

DeMar DeRozan added 27 points for Sacramento. Russell Westbrook ended his night dropping 21 points while collecting 13 rebounds for the double-double.

Maxime Raynaud scored 12 points in a starting role and, like Westbrook, hit double figures in rebounds with a team-high 14 rebounds. Sacramento snatched eight total steals on the defensive side -- with Westbrook and DeRozan leading the way with two apiece. Dylan Cardwell led the Kings in swatting two blocks.

Sacramento snaps a five-game slide in the process.
