Kings Snapping 16-Game Losing Streak Draws Swift Online Reactions cover image

Sacramento can light the beam again, all after toppling the Memphis Grizzlies to end the long skid.

The Sacramento Kings will illuminate the night time sky at home -- after ending the long losing streak on Monday night.

Sacramento ended a slide that started on Jan. 16 -- stunning the favored Memphis Grizzlies 123-114 at the FedEx Forum. That win snapped a franchise-record 16-game slide that began one month ago. Sacramento and head coach Doug Christie even earned a "sadness" label during the skid

The internet reactions became swift. And that includes the Kings' X account (formerly Twitter) sending this message to the admin who runs "The Beam" page.

The Kings' personal account wasn't the only ones chiming in on the evening, though.

"Light the freaking beam," Legion of Hoops posted on X.

Kings reporter Sean Cunningham added one other tidbit involving the significance of this away victory.

"Sacramento will see a purple light in the sky for the first time in over a month. Kings notch their first win Jan. 17th tonight in Memphis 123-114 and their first road victory since Dec. 6, 2025," Cunningham said on X.

That's right -- Sacramento's road losing streak was even longer than the actual 16-game slide.

Kings on NBC (the NBC Sports California account) decided to roll with a Michael Jordan/Meek Mill theme with this graphic commemorating the win.

Matt George of Sactown 1140 AM was even more vocal -- including using a vulgarity in his acronym for "light the beam."

"Not thrilled about Russell Westbrook leading the Kings in scoring with 25 points (in 33 minutes), but Precious Achiuwa and Daeqwon Plowden were really good. Maxime Raynaud got another double double, and Nique Clifford filled the stat sheet on both ends. LTMFB," George posted.

Westbrook indeed bears responsibility for helping end this long skid. Achiuwa dropped 22 points though -- making it the first time he hit 20 points since Jan. 14.

DeMar DeRozan added 19 points among the Kings starters. Raynaud dropped 10 points in handling the inside/post duties for Sacramento.

Plowden rose as a big surprise off the bench, though, in delivering 19 points. Clifford (12 points) and Malik Monk (10) rounded out the last group of Sacramento players who reached double figures in points.

Keegan Murray stepped up as the defensive force -- blocking three shots against the Grizzlies. Achiuwa and Raynaud both produced double-doubles by grabbing 12 and 13 rebounds, respectively.
