The sharpshooting guard showcased his two-way potential during a Sacramento workout, betting on high-volume perimeter scoring and defensive grit to solidify his standing as a rising second-round value.
Former Louisville guard Ryan Conwell is putting his best foot forward in his pre-draft workouts, and in his workout with the Sacramento Kings on Friday, he said he prides himself on being a versatile player.
Conwell has a diverse skill set as a 6-foot-4 guard. He can space the floor, attack the rim and defend at a high level -- making him a two-way player, an archetype many NBA teams covet.
He averaged 18.8 points in his senior campaign with the Cardinals, and shot 34.5% from three on 9.6 attempts. His attempts highlight that he is a high-volume shooter, adding context to his shooting percentage.
Conwell had a down shooting season at Louisville, but has shot over 40% from three in the past two seasons. He played at Xavier in 2024 and Indiana State in 2023, making 2.9 of his 7.1 three-point attempts.
Alongside his shooting, Conwell is a pesky defender. He's averaged 1.1 steals throughout four college seasons, only averaging fewer than one at South Florida in 2022.
The former Cardinal is a college journeyman, which he said many people saw as a burden. However, Conwell saw it as a blessing because of the coaches he played for.
"A lot of people may see it as a burden, you know, all the schools I went to," Conwell told reporters on Friday. "Having to change coaches and systems, but it's really just a blessing, all of the things I learned and just how I've grown as a man. Under all my coaches, I've been blessed to have four great coaches in college."
Conwell has taken the draft process one workout at a time, never getting ahead of himself. He said he can't return to college now, so he has to make the most out of his basketball career.
"I really try taking it one day at a time," Conwell said. "We get so excited, so anxious for the draft and what's going to happen that sometimes you can miss the blessings and all the teams you work out for and the journey in itself."
The Indianapolis, Indiana, native said he will give it his all for the team that drafts him. Conwell is an early to mid-second round pick in mock drafts.
ESPN draft analyst Jeremy Woo had the San Antonio Spurs selecting him with the 44th pick in his mock. Yahoo Sports' Kevin O'Connor projected the Chicago Bulls to draft Conwell with the 38th pick.
The Louisville guard is within the Kings' range, should they choose to draft him. Conwell could become another second-round gem for Sacramento with his experience and polished skill set.
