The former Arkansas standout brings elite three-level scoring to California after pushing for the move. His deep family ties to Sacramento's front office solidify a new franchise era.

The Sacramento Kings selected Darius Acuff Jr. with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft on Tuesday night, adding one of the most talented guards in this year's class to their growing young core.

Sacramento lands its favorite prospect, one of the worst-kept secrets leading up to the draft. Acuff Jr. was born in Detroit, Michigan, the same place as general manager Scott Perry and assistant general manager B.J. Armstrong.

Perry also coached his father, Darius Acuff, in the 1990s at Eastern Kentucky. Yahoo! Sports' Kevin O'Connor reported that Acuff Jr. and his camp pushed to play for the Kings.

The former Razorback is a three-level scorer and consistent shot creator. He can break a defender down in isolation with various dribble moves or use a screen to get downhill and finish at the rim.

Acuff Jr. can play off the ball as well, adding to his scoring versatility. He's a composed player, never too rattled by the defense.

He led Arkansas last season, averaging 23.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 6.4 assists. The former Razorback, at times, willed his team in the clutch with his shot-making.

The Razorbacks lost a double overtime match to then-No. 25 Alabama, but Acuff Jr. was the hero of the game. He played 50 minutes, scored 49 points and nailed the game-tying three with 12 seconds left to send the game into overtime.

Although Acuff Jr. is a supreme offensive talent, he does have some defensive concerns because of his size. At 6-foot-3, opposing teams can target him on defense, and while he has the athleticism and physical tools to be a more impactful defender, his screen navigation and overall engagement on that end remain works in progress.

The Kings land their next guard to lead the franchise for the next several seasons, like De'Aaron Fox. Acuff Jr. joins a complicated roster with a mix of young players and veterans.

He becomes the cornerstone for the franchise and a player Perry can build around this offseason. The future is bright for Sacramento, and Acuff Jr. brings much-needed scoring and playmaking that the team needed at the guard position.

Now, officially a member of the Kings, Acuff Jr. becomes the latest addition who will have an opportunity to help shape Sacramento’s next era.
