Sacramento Kings center Domantas Sabonis makes his feelings clear on the trade rumors surrounding him this offseason.
The Sacramento Kings and center Domantas Sabonis have been involved in a lot of trade rumors this offseason, and in particular, when it came to the possibility of the Kings being able to acquire Detroit Pistons center Jalen Duren. However, Duren has now signed an extension and will remain in Detroit.
With that said, the trade rumor aspect is something that Sabonis talked about recently, and he made his feelings very clear as to where he stands on it, as reported by Bleacher Report Breaking News Writer Zach Bachar.
"Easy. It's all made up. I don't know where you guys get most of it from. I'm there with Scott [Perry], with my agent, so I'm not on social media as much," Sabonis told Johnny Askounis of Eurohoops (h/t Sam Amico of Hoops Wire).
Clearly, Sabonis has made his feelings about the whole situation very evident and is not very concerned about these rumors at all. The fact that he is not on social media that much is probably a good thing for him, as this has been a major topic of discussion throughout the entire offseason.
With that said, I do believe this is a great stance for Sabonis to take, because as a player all he can control is how he plays on the floor and with the young team that the Kings have it is a good example to set to not be concerned about what is going on with front office and trade rumor situations.
When it comes to the contract side for Sabonis, he is set to make $45.5 million in the upcoming 2026-2027 campaign and will make $47.8 million in the 2027-2028 campaign, which means that he is under contract for the Kings over the next two seasons.
As a result of Sabonis being signed to the Kings for the next two years, it will be interesting to see how general manager Scott Perry decides to manage Sabonis' contract because Sabonis is 30 years old and does not necessarily fit the timeline in Sacramento, as this team is trying to get younger and add some talent on the younger side to build for the future.
That said, Sabonis is still on the roster at the start of October which very likely means he will at least start the season on the roster for the Kings and could help this team to improve from where they were a season ago as Sacramento finished with an overall record of 22-60.
When it comes to Sabonis helping this team in 2026, the biggest thing he can do is stay available as last year he only played in 19 games due to a partial tear in his left meniscus which forced some younger players to step in roles that maybe they were not prepared for.
So, heading into the 2026 season, if Sabonis can stay healthy and perform well for the Kings to start the season, he could play an important role in Sacramento starting the season strong and possibly help this team make a run at the play-in tournament.
