A two-time national champion with elite floor-spacing skills, the UConn sharpshooter offers the size and winning pedigree necessary to bolster Sacramento’s rotation and transform the franchise culture.
With the Sacramento Kings, holding significant draft capital for this year and going forward, we at KingsRoundtable have covered all types of prospects in this year's class.
Lately, we have covered some second-round and late-first talents, including Houston's Emanuel Sharp and Arkansas' Meleek Thomas.
In this profile, I will be highlighting UConn's Alex Karaban, the most accomplished player in the 2026 class.
Winning Pedigree
In four seasons with the Huskies, Karaban posted an absurd 116-24 record, losing less games than some teams drop in a single season.
Karaban helped jumpstart UConn's resurgence as a powerhouse program, leading the Huskies to two National Championships and three Final Four appearances.
Following their loss in the National Championship, Karaban and head coach Danny Hurley had an emotional embrace before exiting to the locker room.
In the postgame pressers, Hurley gave Karaban the ultimate compliment.
"This guy changed my life, the staff's lives, the joy he's brought to the university, the fan base," Hurley said. "His decision to come to UConn has made us ... we're probably the premier program in college basketball right now, having been to three out of four national championship games, having won two of them. He's put UConn in that rarefied place in college basketball."
Consistent Effort and Production
Karaban never had a season shooting less than 34.7-percent from deep, while constantly giving maximum effort on the defensive end.
At 6-foot-7, Karaban has a 6-foot-11 wingspan, possessing the size and length to compete at the next level.
Like he always did, Karaban elevated his play in March Madness, averaging 16.2 points per game, including a 27-point flurry against UCLA in the second round.
Strong Combine
Karaban shot the lights out at the recent NBA Draft Combine, with the UConn sharpshooter leading all participants in the spot shooting drill (74.8-percent).
In the 3-point star shooting drill, Karaban made 14 deep balls in a row en route to a 21/25 performance.
Areas For Improvement
Karaban will need to become a better finisher at the rim, adding another element to his game.
Luckily, Karaban has played many different roles in the past, which will likely allow him to adapt to the team he is drafted too.
Draft Projection
In ESPN's latest post-lottery mock, Karaban led off the second round, being taken No. 31 overall by the New York Knicks.
Expect Karaban to continue to rise in stock, perhaps even sneaking into the back of the second round.
Are Kings a Fit?
The Kings could instantly benefit from a player like Karaban, who is a culture-builder and proven winner.
Karaban's 3-point shooting and defensive consistency would make him an instant plug-and-play option.
