With just about two months until the 2026 NBA Draft, we at KingsRoundtable will continue to highlight all types of prospects for the Sacramento Kings in this year's loaded class.
Recently, we have covered Stanford's Ebuka Okorie, Alabama's Amari Allen, and Iowa's Bennett Stirtz, who are all projected to be taken later in the first round.
In this profile, we'll be taking a look at NC State freshman guard Matt Able, who is also being mocked in a similar range.
Spark Plug
On an older and more experienced NC State team, Able served as the Wolfpack's flamethrower off the bench, often playing his way into the closing lineup in tight games.
Able averaged 8.8 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, adding 1.2 steals.
At 6-foot-6, 205 pounds, Able possesses the size to compete at the next level, combining solid ball handling and driving ability with a knockdown jumpshot.
Able gets good lift on his jumper, allowing him to shoot over the top of contesting defenders.
He also uses a quick release and good footwork to square himself up for 3-point opportunities, shooting at a 35.5-percent clip.
Looming Decision
After entering the NBA Draft while maintaining his eligibility, Able transferred to North Carolina, marking the first time in over 80 years a player has made that specific move.
With the addition of former NBA Champion head coach Mike Malone, Able may opt to return to college to improve his draft stock.
But, Able is still seen as a fringe-first round talent because of his youth and upside.
Consistency is Key
Able showed the ability to catch fire and take over games, but also had some tough showings.
However, towards the end of the season, Able displayed more consistency, especially on the defensive end.
Able recorded at least one steal in his final seven games of the season, adding four blocks.
Draft Projection
In ESPN's post-combine mock, Able landed with the Brooklyn Nets at No. 33, which is a very likely possibility should Brooklyn look for a high-upside player in the second round.
While other players being mocked similarly to Able may have had better statistical seasons, Able's upside and prototypical combo-guard build make him an intriguing prospect.
Are Kings a Fit?
With Able landing in the late second round, he would be a nice get for Sacramento, who needs to find consistent shooting from the outside.
Able would step into a similar role with the Kings as he played collegiately, serving a Jared McCain-type shooting role off the bench.
