With the recent acquisition of Ben Simmons, the Sacramento Kings' front office continues to make moves to accelerate the franchise's rebuild.

While the Sacramento Kings still have a way to go to being championship contenders in the extremely deep Western Conference, the front office has made some confident moves this offseason.

The roster has gotten significantly younger, while the bench unit was bolstered through the NBA Draft.

Getting former All Stars like Zach LaVine and Domantas Sabonis back from injury should mean improvements for the team.

SacTown Sports' Matt George talked about the front office's recent moves and how they have positioned themselves for the future.

"Scott Perry's given himself a chance," George said on Friday. "He's trying. He's taking shots. He's putting himself in the conversation. I think that's a very encouraging thing for the Sacramento Kings."

The leadership positions within the locker room will be one thing that changes this season, as veteran presences like DeMar DeRozan and Russell Westbrook have moved on from Sac Town.

But, the types of players targeted through the draft were well-coached in college, and should bring a level of maturity and culture building to the team.

The most recent move by Sacramento, signing Ben Simmons, is another big swing, as the former Rookie of the Year winner has been out of the NBA for more than a year.

Going forward, the 6-foot-10 point forward will likely fill in as an offensive initiator off the bench for Christie, backing up Darius Acuff Jr.

Simmons' ability to handle the ball and facilitate at his size has always been his strength, but his defensive impact is likely what earned him the nod over other veterans like Victor Oladipo and Cam Payne.

For a Sacramento team that needs defensive versatility and size in the front court, Simmons can fill that role.

Former Kings head coach Jerry Reynolds frequently joins SacTown Sports to talk about various stories surrounding the franchise, and had positive remarks surrounding the Simmons acquisition.

"He really has the skill set to kind of make up for what they're not," Reynolds said. "He could really help this team."

With Acuff taking over as the starting point guard, the backup role remains a question.

But, head coach Doug Christie now has multiple options, with Simmons and Malik Monk playing lead guard roles in the past.

Second-year forward Nique Clifford is another player who has been working on handling the ball more, and could be experimented as a point-forward type player.

The confidence from the front office to allow key veterans to leave, while determining the roster needs to get younger with more spacing, shows that Perry is taking swings to improve.
