Despite a standout Summer League performance, Sacramento parts ways with Colorado State’s all-time assist leader, clearing a two-way roster spot for potential new talent in the backcourt.
The Sacramento Kings have put together one of the best G-League squads over the past few seasons, with the Stockton Kings affiliate being a consistent force.
Two-way guard Isaiah Stevens was a big proponent of this success, averaging 14.5 points 8.6 assists, and 3.4 rebounds per game lastseason, shooting at a 47% clip.
But, on Monday, the Kings parted ways with the former Colorado State star, waiving the Rams' all-time assist leader.
Stevens only made three appearances for Sacramento last season, averaging 3.3 points and 3.3 assists in limited NBA action.
After beginning his career as a member of the Miami Heat organization, Stevens joined the Kings for a lone year, where he recorded his first NBA bucket.
But, Stevens' waiving comes as a bit of a surprise considering his standout showings at the recent 2026 NBA Summer League, where he was one of the Kings' most-consistent players.
Against the Golden State Warriors, at the California Classic, Stevens and rookie forward Emanuel Sharp each tallied a game-high 18 points, as Stevens began his hot streak of 3-point shooting.
This shooting ability was on display throughout the rest of Sacramento's games, as he capitalized his stellar play with big 3-point makes in the Kings' final game at home.
Stevens and undrafted free agent rookie Marquel Sutton made back-to-back 3-pointers against the Milwaukee Bucks to help build a double-digit lead, as the Kings held on for a six-point victory.
Losing Stevens is not a huge loss, but keeping him around for depth purposes could have been valuable, especially after losing veteran presences like DeMar DeRozan and Russell Westbrook in the backcourt.
But, looking ahead, the Kings' front office could be looking to add a different talent on a two-way deal.
Sutton is one player who comes to mind, as the former Summit League Player of the Year was dynamic in the Summer League as well.
The former Omaha and LSU standout scored a game-high 24 points against the Bucks, nailing four triples and adding six rebounds.
Sutton's 3-point shooting prowess is a great sign, as it wasn't a strength in his game during his college days.
The 6-foot-9 forward eclipsed 30-percent from deep just one time during his collegiate career, but looked extremely comfortable and fluid on his attempts at the professional level.
Wing depth is definitely still a need for Sacramento, as Sharp and two-time National Champion Alex Karaban will have to work through some growing pains during their rookie campaigns.
