Some came to defend the visibly frustrated Sacramento Kings guard. But did others criticize Westbrook?

Russell Westbrook unloaded on the media covering the Sacramento Kings after Thursday's loss to the New Orleans Pelicans. His now viral rant sparked multiple reactions, featuring a mix of defenders and critics.

Westbrook called out reporters for what he believed were "false narratives" about the state of the Kings.

"You guys have a lot of opinions about how we do what we're doing," Westbrook said.

He even called out one reporter, Matt George of Sactown 1140 AM.

"I haven't seen you at practice," Westbrook said.

"Do you know me? No, you don't know me," Westbrook said, answering his own rhetorical question. "But you make a lot of comments as though you do know me. You don't know anything about me."

Westbrook's pushback against reporters has sparked widespread reactions, beginning with George, who post this clip:

Meanwhile, Josh Eberley of Hoops Magazine and the Sporting News chimed in.

"I have no problem with Russell Westbrook challenging a reporter or the media in general if there was a specific report or sentiment that he felt was untrue," Eberley said first on X. "But in that rant, when given over six minutes to point to any sort of specific issue, he failed to mention it."

Eberley added: "Feels more like years of frustration just being taken out on the people covering the Kings. He was asked point blank what was said that he took issue with and said he didn’t want to go around. But that’s all they did."

Veteran sports reporter Kelsey Nicole Nelson also felt mixed feelings about Westbrook's rant.

"One word comes to mind when watching this Russell Westbrook press conference, frustration. I have no issue with how he said what he said or him voicing he wants to hold reporters accountable calling out a reporter in the room but specifics about what exactly bothered him would help," Nicole Nelson posted.

This isn't the first time Westbrook came after the media. He became known for it during his early years with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Except now he's a 37-year-old veteran defending the state of his team amid one of the worst seasons in Kings history.
