A deeper look at Sacramento Kings rookie guard Emmanuel Sharp and his career that has led him to the NBA.
The Sacramento Kings head into the 2026 season with an opportunity to be a bit more competitive than they were a season ago, with both the veterans and the young talent being a key part of that goal.
Focusing on the young talent, rookie guard Emanuel Sharp has not been mentioned a whole lot this summer, but he still has the ability to contribute.
So with that in mind, it is now time to take a look at the player profile for Emanuel Sharp to see what has gotten him to this point and why he could be a key contributor for the Kings in 2026.
In college, Sharp played for the Houston Cougars for a total of four seasons and was a great contributor on both ends of the floor in each of those seasons.
For Sharp's career at Houston he played 144 total games and started in 105 of those games which gives him a significant amount of experience heading into his rookie year.
Additionally, Sharp was very productive on both ends of the floor throughout his career as he averaged 11.8 points, three rebounds, one assist, and 1.1 steals per game over his four season with the Cougars.
As far as efficiency goes, Sharp was pretty solid on that front as well, as he shot 39.7 percent from the field, 37.6 percent from beyond the arc, and 87.1 percent from the free-throw line.
After looking at Sharp's college stats, it is clear that he is a productive offensive player and is a solid defender as well, which is going to be key as he begins his NBA career.
Following Sharp's career at Houston he prepared for the 2026 NBA Draft and was selected by the Kings with No. 45 overall pick in the second round which is how he ended up in Sacramento.
At this point, Sharp is not at the top of the rotation at shooting guard as he is behind veteran guards Zach LaVine and Malik Monk as well as second-year guard Nique Clifford, so it will be interesting to see how Sharp performs in training camp and if he can carve out a key role on this for the 2026 season.
With the offensive production and the defensive ability that Sharp displayed in college, it is very possible that he could earn a key role in this rotation because having young players who can be effective on both sides of the floor is exactly what the Kings are looking for at this point.
So, as Sharp heads into his rookie season with the Kings, it will be interesting to see how he transitions from college to the NBA, and if his skill set translates well, he may be in a position to compete for a spot in the rotation during training camp, which could be critical for his development and the future of the Kings' backcourt.
