Why Maxime Raynaud Could Be a Critical Player For the Kings in 2026

The Sacramento Kings have been able to make some additions this offseason, but there could be another move made that could impact the center position.

That potential move involves center Domantas Sabonis, who could very well be leaving Sacramento, and as a result, it will impact the depth at the center position, particularly second-year center Maxime Raynaud.

So, with that said it is time to make the case for why Raynaud will be a critical player for the Kings in 2026.

To start, if Sabonis does really leave Sacramento, the Kings will need to have depth just in case they are not able to acquire a player of Sabonis' caliber.

Now, there have been some rumors that the Kings could acquire Detroit Pistons' center Jalen Duren, however, there is no guarantee of that, so it seems that Raynaud could be in a position to be a critical component of this Sacramento frontcourt.

In 2025, Raynaud actually demonstrated that he could be a key piece of the Kings' frontcourt as he started 56 of the 74 games he played in, and while Raynaud did start because Sabonis was dealing with injuries, which was not ideal for Sacramento, it did give the young center great experience heading into 2026.

During the 2025 season, Raynaud actually took full advantage of his opportunity and was a great option for the Kings at the center position as he averaged 12.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game.

Across the board, Raynaud showed the ability to be reliable on both ends which appears to be why head coach Doug Christie opted to start him in place of Sabonis rather than an alternative option.

Not only was Raynaud a solid option on both ends, but he was also quite efficient as he shot 57.1 percent from the field, 32.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 78.6 percent from the free-throw line.

It is important to note that Raynaud only attempted 74 threes, but his ability to knock down 24 was good, and if he can continue to progress as a shooter, he could become a great floor spacer for this offense, which would open up the paint a lot more.

Focusing on the defensive end, with Raynaud's 7-1 and 250-pound frame, he brings a great presence on the interior who can alter shots, rebound the ball well, and force opposing teams to consistently knock down perimeter shots rather than being able to generate easy shots at the rim.

So, whether the Kings just need depth at center or actually need a starting-caliber player, Raynaud's progression on both ends of the floor puts him in a great position to fill either role and be a key piece for Sacramento in 2026.
