There could be a path to redemption for James Wiseman.
The New York Knicks are turning to training camp to audition choices for their final roster ahead of the regular season and one option for the Knicks could represent a reunion between head coach Mike Brown and one of his former proteges.
James Wiseman was signed to a training camp contract earlier in the month and thus will be competing for that final roster spot and even though Wiseman's place on the NBA squad is dependent on what he actually shows the team during training camp, he already has a champion in Brown who could be rooting him on for that spot.
“If Wiseman makes the Knicks' Opening Night roster, it will cement a reunion for the former No. 2 overall pick with former Warriors assistant coach Mike Brown," Marc Stein wrote in the Stein Line. "Word is that Brown, furthermore, is indeed a Wiseman fan."

Wiseman was drafted second-overall by the Warriors during the 2020 NBA Draft and debuted during the 2020 season, when Brown was serving on Steve Kerr's staff.
A knee injury that kept Wiseman off the court during his sophomore season and ultimately led to a decline that resulted in the Warriors trading Wiseman away during the 2022-23 season, ending the Warriors' attempt at building the next generation of the Warriors' around him.

Wiseman has more than just a connection with Brown working for him, though. He fills the most outstanding positional need that the Knicks have at this point: center.

The Knicks have just three options at center between Karl-Anthony Towns, Andre Drummond and Mohamed Diawara, with Diawara going into just his second season, so New York is seriously wanting for size and depth at the five.
Standing at 6'11 and 240 pounds, Wiseman represents exactly what the Knicks need on paper. That alone represents a huge advantage for him finding a roster spot and if he can simply put together a solid performance that shows he can be relied and late in games, he very well could be that final roster decision for New York.

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY SportsWiseman's career has been rocky after entering into it as such a highly touted prospect, but his path back to permanence in the NBA could run through Manhattan and the prospect of joining back up with Brown represents a full circle moment for him if the Wiseman experience works out in New York.
The Knicks have been Brown's own path forward in the NBA and with some good fortune, the Orange and Blue could do the same for Wiseman.
