The Knicks need to move fast to find their third center.
The New York Knicks just lost out on Moussa Cisse in free agency after the Dallas Mavericks matched the Knicks' offer to Cisse and swooped him from the defending champions and now new York has to act quickly to try and remedy that loss.
A third center is the most dire need that the Knicks have at this point and it looked like Cisse was going to be able to fill that need for the Knicks, but now they have to look elsewhere to find the player that can lend some support to Karl-Anthony Towns and Andre Drummond at the five spot on the floor.
There are a few options available to the Knicks, especially since looking for a third center is a process with a lot less pressure than looking for a starting center would be.
Looking at the options in free agency that the Knicks have ahead of them, a handful of names stand out, including someone who already knows how to play in the Knicks' system.
Trey Jemison III
Trey Jemison III spent most of his time in the G-League this past season and he's now a restricted free agent and if the Knicks make a move to retain him, he could easily find a more permanent home in the Knicks NBA depth chart.
Adding Jemison III wouldn't come at much of a cost for the Knicks and even if Jemison III didn't immediately slot in as the third option at center, he could at least round out the depth that allow the Knicks to move other players up the depth chart.
Christian Koloko
Christian Koloko is another young option that the Knicks could pursue, someone who similar to Jemison III offers the benefit of youth more than the immediate impact of someone else, but adding Koloko could be an option for depth that the Knicks desperately need and
Koloko has been a journeyman throughout his NBA career, but the Knicks could pffer him a steadier contract, if only a one-year deal to patch up their lack of depth at the moment.
Tony Bradley
While Jemison III and Koloko offer the benefit of youth, should the Knicks need a player who can more reliably contribute on the court right away, Tony Bradley, who most recently played for the Atlanta Hawks, could be an attractive option.
Indiana Pacers center Tony Bradley (13) shoots on Detroit Pistons guard Javonte Green (31) in the second half at Little Caesars Arena. Rick Osentoski-Imagn ImagesBradley has the size and the experience of someone who can slot in to a depth spot, which is exactly what the Knicks would need out of him and considering that Bradley has subsisted on a variety of 10-day and rest-of-season contracts himself in his NBA career, he should be an affordable option to pick up at the last minute as well.
