Allen Iverson may not be the most accomplished NBA player of all-time, but he's widely regarded as one of the most impactful. Generations were affected not only by Iverson's play, but his style and personality off the court.
Among those impacted was New York Knicks superstar Jalen Brunson. During Wednesday night's game between the Knicks and Hornets, Brunson was seen showing love to Iverson, who was attending the game.
After the Knicks' win, Brunson showed love to the NBA legend.
During a postgame interview, Brunson revealed a sweet story about how he used to have his mom cut his socks so that they could resemble Iverson's shooting sleeves.
"A lot," Brunson said about Iverson's impact. "I used to cut my mom's socks to make shooting sleeves because of Allen Iverson. He impacted my life, man, he's one of the GOATS for sure."
Throughout Iverson's career, he averaged 26.7 points, 6.2 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.2 steals on 42.5% shooting from the field. At only six feet tall, Iverson was still able to secure an NBA MVP with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2001, where he averaged 31.1 points, 4.6 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.5 steals.
Looking at Brunson's game, it's very clear that much of it was based off the play of Allen Iverson.
On Wednesday night, the New York Knicks dominated the Charlotte Hornets 129-101 to go on a two-game winning streak. Brunson led the game in scoring, putting up 33 points, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds on 50% shooting from the field - a stat line very similar to his hero Allen Iverson.
After the game, Brunson revealed the keys to the win over Charlotte.
"We're just finding ways to attack and feeding off each other," Brunson said. "Reading what the defense is giving us. Ball was going in today. It helps when we're getting stops, too. The energy is contagious. We kept getting into the paint, making plays, we were able to finish at the basket, finish in the paint, playing what the defense gives us."
Currently, the Knicks have a record of 11-6, but they don't have many quality wins. They started the season with two great wins against the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics, but have since struggled against winning teams, but have handled under .500 teams.
Up next for the New York Knicks, the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday night.
